Ultimate Green Smoothie
If you don’t make time for your wellness, you will be forced to make time for your illness.
I remember the first time a naturopathic doctor told me to make a smoothie to get more nutrition in my diet. Panic rose in me, I had never made a smoothie before, and he talked about it like everyone should know how. So I finally mustered up the courage to ask, “How do you make a smoothie?”
He told me that he would give me a recipe, it was easy, and you can’t mess it up.
Now I know what he means, and I can’t really remember what it was like to not know how to make a smoothie. The first couple of smoothies I made were precise, but now I throw anything and everything nutritious in my smoothies. LOL!!
Smoothies are a great and easy way to get lots of fruits and vegetables in your system. And it’s an easy way to sneak in other good nutritious ingredients you would probably never take by themselves, like flaxseed.
According to Green Smoothie Girl, Robyn Openshaw, the top six benefits that people (who drank a green smoothie a day for 30 days) experience when starting a green smoothie habit are, in order:
More energy
Improved digestion
Fewer cravings for sweets and processed food
A more positive/stable mood
Improved skin
Weight loss.
So I would say it is at least worth giving it a try.
Here is a recipe for an Ultimate Green Smoothie.
And here is a video of me making my Green Smoothie!
Ultimate Green Smoothie
INGREDIENTS:
1 1/2 cups water
3 hand fulls of spinach
2 large kale leaves
2 cups of mixed berries
1 banana
1 apple
You can stop here and have a great green smoothie, but to have an ultimate green smoothie add the following ingredients:
1 scoop of protein powder (any flavor)
1 heaping scoop sprouted flaxseed
In a blender, mix water and greens, add the fruit, then add the protein and/or flaxseed.
I put mine in a mason jar and drink it down with a straw. :)
So give it a try and let me know what you think.
How awesome would it be for your whole family to drink a smoothie a day?
