Through the Ages

Real Hope Worship (our C3 Church worship team) just released a new album, “Faithful Still,” on August 27th, and I have been listening to all of the songs on repeat ever since.

I am so proud of our team for leaning into God for his direction on this project, and we are believing that God will use these songs to impact people around the world.

This past weekend, I was honored to speak at C3 Church as we opened our series, Faithful Still. This series highlights some of the songs on the album, digs deeper into how God’s word influenced each of them, and how to apply it to your life.

Through the Ages is the song that I highlighted. You can listen to it here!

Here are the lyrics:

VERSE 1 The wind is raging, The earth is shaking We’re desperate for you, God The waters roaring, mountains before me My faith remains in you PRE-CHORUS Cause When I close my eyes I hear you speak to me You say “be still and trust I am in control.” VERSE 2 I follow your voice, out of the darkness Into your glorious light Your mercy roaring, your word before me My faith remains in you CHORUS Your goodness never changes You're faithful through the ages My God, you never fail me You never let me go BRIDGE I will sing with all creation Light of heaven, You are Holy Be exalted in the nations God of ages, You are worthy

This song is almost like a prophecy of what is happening around us and what our response should be.

The wind is raging - The hurricane in LA

The earth is shaking - Haiti

The Waters roaring - Flooding

Mountains before me - Fires in CA

But how can we know He is in control, trust that He is Good and faithful (like the song says) when we see these things happening in Afghanistan and around the world?

Hebrews 13:8 (NIV) Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

If He never changes, then we can look at His track record and see how He handles things and what our response is to be.

His track record is found in His Word. Faith comes by reading and listening to the Word of God

When you are singing or listening to this song, there are some things that I want you to know.

1. We Can Hear God’s Voice

Not the world’s voice, not our own voice - God’s voice.

The Bible is God’s conversation to us. It was written by different authors, but the Holy Spirit wrote through people. He is speaking.

Acts 4:25 (NIV) You (God) spoke by the Holy Spirit through the mouth of your servant, our father David: “‘Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain?

2. Read the Word of God.

You learn by reading. We teach you the Word of God in church and small groups. You can also download the Bible app and read devotionals!

Deuteronomy 6: 6-9 (NLT) And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. 7 Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up. 8 Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders. 9 Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

Deuteronomy 11: 18-21 (NLT) “So commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these words of mine. Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders. 19 Teach them to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up. 20 Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates, 21 so that as long as the sky remains above the earth, you and your children may flourish in the land the Lord swore to give your ancestors.

3. Memorize the Word of God

Write out scripture on an index card, post-it note, or add it on your phone as a screensaver and then say it over and over until it is memorized.

Young kids can memorize anything. So, parents, you need to teach them the scripture.

Psalm 119:11 (NLT) I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.

4. Meditate on the word of God

When a cow chews its cud, it chews it, swallows it, brings it back up. Then, he chews it some more, swallows it. Each time it gets grosser.

Hebrews 4:12 (NIV) For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

The Word of God is alive, and unlike a cow’s cud, it gets better and better the more you meditate (chew) on it.

How do we worry? We never learned how to! You just worry...

Then we can learn how to meditate. Just replace worry with God’s Word.

Psalm 1:1-2 (NIV) Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, 2 but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night.

Joshua 1:8 (NIV) Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.

5. Align our lives with the Word of God.

2 Corinthians 1:20 (NLT) For all of God’s promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding “Yes!” And through Christ, our “Amen” (which means “Yes”) ascends to God for his glory.

God’s promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding “Yes”!

Time does not hinder the promises of God. There are promises that God has made that have not yet been fulfilled, but they will because God’s promises are yes.

God never changes. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He has been Faithful through the ages. (This song is full of God’s promises)

However, there is a second part to this verse:

And through Christ, our “Amen” (which means yes) Ascends to God for His Glory. We have to come into agreement with the promises of God.

When we find a promise of God, we have to align our life, words, and belief with the Word of God. God’s Word is the Standard.

My life is not the standard.

My feelings are not the standard.

Culture is not the standard.

And when I say “Yes” to the promises of God, it ascends to the heavens for God’s Glory.

What is your life saying Amen to?

Are you amending God’s provision?

His presence?

His calling on your life?

You are chosen.

You are accepted.

You are loved.

OR are you amen-ing and coming into agreement with the negative dark parts of your past, the identity others have given you, the shame inside of you, or the lies of the evil one?

Pick a verse for whatever you need today and align yourself up with the Word of God. (There is a verse for your situation.) And say YES to the promises of God!

One of the lines in the song is, “Be still and trust.”

Psalm 46:10 (NLT) “Be still, and know that I am God!

There are 4000 promises in the Bible, and God is looking for someone to say Yes! God sends the promises down, and you send the Amen right back up.

Angels are waiting for us to declare God’s promises so they can get to work.

Psalm 103:20 (NLT) Praise the Lord, you angels, you mighty ones who carry out His plans, listening for each of his commands.

Here are some examples:

  • My kids and grandkids are going to serve the Lord. It’s in the Bible, so I am saying AMEN to God’s word.

* Joshua 24:15 (NLT) But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.”

  • Some of us know somebody who is sick and maybe fighting for their life.

*Psalm 118:17 (NLT) I will not die; instead, I will live to tell what the Lord has done.

*Psalm 30:2 (NLT) O Lord my God, I cried to you for help, and you restored my health.

  • What’s going to happen to the church?

*Matthew 16:18 (NLT) ... and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it.

  • Fearful of life and the future?

*Psalm 32:7 (NLT) For you are my hiding place; You protect me from trouble. You surround me with songs of victory.

But here is the most important promise I want you to know.

Romans 10:9-10 (NLT) If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved.

Romans 10:13 (NLT) For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

Let me know if this encouraged you and if you know someone that needs to hear this message, check it out!
