This past weekend our church hosted a conference called Freedom. It follows a small group where we look into our pasts, hurts, and fears to allow God to heal us! FREEDOM!
I talk about how it all started for me in my book, Moving Forward.
One of the areas we talk about is fear.
Fear is defined as an unpleasant, often strong emotion caused by anticipation or awareness of danger.
It’s also one of the enemy’s favorite weapons to use against us. With so much crazy going on around us today, we need to guard our hearts and minds with the Word of God to protect us from becoming overwhelmed with worry, anxiety, and fear.
We probably dwell on the “what will happen” more than we should, and it actually never ends up happening! Living in a world of “what-ifs” is a suffocating place.
God’s Word says...
An anxious heart weighs a man down, but a kind word cheers him up” (Proverbs 12:25)
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6-7)
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7)
It’s not always easy, but it does come down to a choice. We have to choose not to allow fear and anxiety to control our lives, choose to focus on the truth of God’s Word and choose to guard our hearts.
We might still feel afraid, but we know that God is with us and He is in control. We might not know what the future holds, but we know the God who does.
“I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears” (Psalm 34:4)
One of the best ways to release fear is to declare God’s Word over ourselves, our families, and our friends.
Here is a declaration that you can use when you feel the spirit of fear creeping in.
The LORD is on my side. I will not fear!
No evil will befall me, for the Lord has given His angels charge over me.
Greater is He who’s in me than he who’s in the world.
I will fear no evil, for God is with me.
No weapon formed against me will prosper, and fear does not come near me.
His word and His Spirit comfort me.
They keep me in all my ways.
The shield of faith is my defense.
In the name of Jesus, I am an overcomer!
I am submitted to God, and the devil flees from me.
You are my protector.
Fear, you must go now!
I am made perfect in love.
And perfect love casts out ALL fear!
In Jesus’ name, Amen!!
