Can you believe January is over and February is here?
So one month in, how are you doing on your new year’s resolutions and goals for the new year?
Can I give you one tip to accomplish what you desire in 2022?
Here it is.......
Set your goals around what you can control, your habits, your hustle, and not outcomes.
Here is an example:
A young boy was on his way to a soccer game, and his grandpa asked him how many goals he was going to score, and he said 2.
The young boy played hard and gave the game his all. His team won, but he did not score any goals.
The boy was very downcast as he walked back to the car, so his grandpa asked him what was wrong. They won the game. The boy said, “I didn’t score you two goals like I said I would.”
The grandpa learned a very valuable lesson that day. Don’t ask him to do something he has no control over. He could not control how many goals he would score. It’s better to ask him to do something he can control.
He can control his hustle and playing at his full potential.
The same is true for you and me. Don’t confuse goals and habits with outcomes.
We can control our habits and the goals we set for ourselves. However, we cannot control the outcome.
Here’s another example:
I want to make an extra $5,000 a month in my business.
That’s an OUTCOME, not a goal.
Your GOAL should be what you can do DAILY, like daily habits—things you can control.
You can reach out to 20 people a day.
You can follow up with 10 clients a day.
You can examine your marketing to see if it is effective.
These are things you can control. 👆🏼 And the outcome will take care of itself.
If you don’t know what to do to grow your business daily, ask someone who already has what you want. Find out their daily routines and start there.
If your marriage is not what you want it to be, find someone who has a great marriage and ask them what they do.
If you need help in parenting your kids, find someone who has a relationship with their kids that you love and ask them what they do. What habits and routines do they have as a family?
You can’t control the outcome of your relationships, but you can work on your daily, weekly, and monthly habits. What you can do and what you can say.
A great book to read is Atomic Habits.
This book helps you set up good systems and habits that help you reach your goals and create great outcomes.
Same with “I want to lose 20 pounds”, that’s an outcome.
A goal is:
I will drink half my body weight in ounces of water a day. I will move my body for 30 minutes a day.
I will take my daily supplements.
I will not eat after 6pm.
I will cut out processed food.
You can control every single one of those actions.
You must learn to clap for yourself every day when you implement the habits to move you toward your goals. And let the outcome be the outcome.
Don’t wait to high-five yourself until you make the extra 5k or lose the 20 pounds. That’s the outcome, and you have no control over it. (That's why people quit.)
Celebrate yourself every day! Celebrate the things you did accomplish… the things you can control.
In 2022, measure your success by the daily seeds that you plant.
Then the harvest you desire will come!!!!
Don’t be misled—you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant. 8 Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit. 9 So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. 10 Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone. Galatians 6:7
We can control what we sow.
Remember this—a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop. 2 Corinthians 9:6
