The Power of Gratitude
Give thanks to the LORD and proclaim his greatness. Let the whole world know what he has done. Psalm 105:1
I will give You thanks with all my heart; Psalm 138:1
We know that a grateful heart is good for us but did you know that gratitude brings peace?
Gratitude helps us see that God’s hand is over our circumstances and He tells us that when we give him our thanks, He will give us supernatural peace.
Practicing daily thankfulness may seem like another chore on your list, but there are many reasons to intentionally build an attitude of gratitude!
Gratitude glorifies God. This alone would be a great reason to give thanks to God. Our gratitude glorifies God as our Gift, not the Giver. Gratitude helps us realize that all we have comes from God, not us.
When we practice gratitude, it helps us to see God. The more we thank Him, the more we see Him working in us, through us and around us. It helps us sense His Presence and how he cares for us and how His timing is always perfect.
Part of His will for us is to be thankful, not just on the good days but on the bad ones as well. Sometimes, it’s just about obedience. Gratitude puts us in God’s will.
Gratitude brings contentment as well. We may have heard that gratitude makes what we have enough but if we aren’t grateful for what God has already given us, getting more won’t satisfy us either. Being thankful is the key to contentment.
Our faith grows with gratitude. Remembering God’s faithfulness in our past can give us the strength we face new difficulties
We can also experience the Joy of the Lord through gratitude. The overflow of gratitude is joy. Recognizing God’s goodness, even in the hard times, is a path to joy.
As we are in a holding pattern, gratitude can help us open our eyes to the simple beauty of ordinary days. It lets us see this day and these moments as gifts and to take in the blessings of right now.
So get your journal out and start recording the simple blessings of today and be grateful for each and every one. It will bring Glory and Honor to God and draw us closer to him every time we do!
