Do Not Be Afraid.....

Aug 02, 2019

As we were planning Sisterhood, I met with a group of lady leaders at C3 to talk about what women struggle with.  Fear was a big topic.  They came up with a list of 10 areas of fear women tend to struggle with.

I used the 10 areas in my sermon at Sisterhood but didn't get through all 10, so I wanted to list them for you.  And so those of you who need the blanks filled in can be at peace.  LOL!!!

I also interview the girls who are my legacy, my two daughters and my daughter-in- love.  I was so proud of them.   They were raw and real and so transparent.  You can watch the intervew here.

You can watch the Sisterhood sermon here.   This is a pic Matt posted of me preaching.  (there are more pics at the end of the blog)

Forms of Fear - Afraid, Agitated, anxious, frightened, hesitant, dread, nervous, scared, shy, tense, timid, uneasy, nauseated, restless, preoccupied, worried, tense, terrified, insecure, indecisive, hyper-vigilant, cautious.

1.  Fear of Failure

We are all already born messed up, that's why we need a savior.  So there is no need to fear failure.  All things are possible with God.  So just do it afraid.  Excitement and anxiety feel the same so just start telling yourself you are excited.  There is no failure, it's just a learning opportunity.  So go for it!!!

 2.  Fear of not hearing clearly from God

God is always speaking, so make sure you are taking time to hear His voice.

He speaks through His Word, so make sure you are taking time to read or listen audibly to God's Word.

He speaks - Rama Word.  This is that impression you feel God is telling you.  It's not word for word in the Bible, but a Rama Word will never contradict the Bible.

He speaks through people.  Do you have people in your life who will be real with you and speak the truth into your life?  Not what you want to hear, truth.  If not, you need to allow people who are full of the Holy Spirit to speak truth into your life, without you getting defensive.

3. Fear of saying & doing what God tells us

To be a Christ-follower we have to follow Jesus, take up our cross daily and follow Him.  And to trust that God will never give us more than we can handle.  So if He is asking us to say or do something He has already given us everything we need to do it.   Step out in faith and trust Him.

 4.  Fear of Imperfection

    • Fear of admitting our weaknesses or inadequacies
    • Fear of asking for help  (Pride)

The Bible tells us to humble ourselves and part of humbling ourselves is admitting our weaknesses and inadequacies.  Pride comes before a fall, so humble yourself before God and He will lift you up.

5.  Fear of Missing Out (FOMO)  (What do you want to miss out on)

You have to choose if you are going to miss out on the things the world offers or are you going to miss out on what God has for you.  The choice is yours.

 6. Fear of Not Being Enough

James 1:4 says, "Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing."

7.  Fear the Unknown

We will never know the future, so we need to trust in the Lord with all our heart, and lean not on our own understanding, but in all our ways acknowledge Him and He will direct our paths.

 8.  Fear of Running Out (FORO)

    • Running out of time, passion, capacity, desire

God is exceedingly abundantly, more than enough.  No matter how old you are there is time to do all He is calling you to do.

9.  Fear of My Calling

    • Do I even know what that looks like?  How do I discover that?
    • If I know my calling, can I function securely in that place?

You may not know the exact call of God on your life, but start somewhere, serve somewhere, do something.  I didn't know 20 years ago or even 10 years ago or even 1 year ago exactly what I would be doing, and I didn't need to.  I just need to follow God and do what He wants me to today, tomorrow will take care of itself.

10.  Fear of What’s Next

      • Fear of What’s Next? Will there ever be a “Next”? Am I stuck here forever?
      • Will, I ever experience more than I am in now?
      • Fear of  the season I am in is forever
      • Fear of when this season ends I won’t know what to do in my next step

 God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind.  We do not have to fear the future and what is next or the different seasons of life.  God is already there.  He is making your crooked path straight.  You have to surrender to Him and trust His ways.

Fear makes it hard to hear from God, so hear the Father say to you, "Do not be afraid...."

and claim the promises of Psalm 91

1 Those who live in the shelter of the Most High
    will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

2  This I declare about the Lord:
He alone is my refuge, my place of safety;
    he is my God, and I trust him.

3 For he will rescue you from every trap
    and protect you from deadly disease.

4 He will cover you with his feathers.
    He will shelter you with his wings.
    His faithful promises are your armor and protection.

5 Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night,
    nor the arrow that flies in the day.

6 Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness,
    nor the disaster that strikes at midday.

7 Though a thousand fall at your side,
    though ten thousand are dying around you,
    these evils will not touch you.

8 Just open your eyes,
    and see how the wicked are punished.

9 If you make the Lord your refuge,
    if you make the Most High your shelter,

10 no evil will conquer you;
    no plague will come near your home.

11 For he will order his angels
    to protect you wherever you go.

12 They will hold you up with their hands
    so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone.

13 You will trample upon lions and cobras;
    you will crush fierce lions and serpents under your feet!

14 The Lord says, “I will rescue those who love me.
    I will protect those who trust in my name.

15 When they call on me, I will answer;
    I will be with them in trouble.
    I will rescue and honor them.

16 I will reward them with a long life
    and give them my salvation.”
