I love making Spaghetti, so I thought I'd share with you my favorite recipe! It's super easy and it turns out delicious!
After 21 Days of Prayer launched on Saturday, I did an Instagram live and made homemade spaghetti sauce. I was even able to use fresh tomatoes from a friend's garden! No worries if you don't have any fresh tomatoes, you can definitely use canned tomatoes for this sauce. Many of you have asked for the recipe so here it is! 😊
Disclaimer: I am not a food blogger so there won't be many pretty pictures, I am just giving you the recipe. 😜 Also, for my friends from Italy, I am not Italian, this is not my grandmother’s recipe, I found it in a magazine and I've made a few changes. There are probably ways to improve it if so feel free to share your input in the comment section!
1 pound bulk Italian sausage (1/2 mild, 1/2 hot)
1 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
1 12-ounce can tomato paste
3 28-ounce cans Italian-style or plain crushed tomatoes in purée (or chop up fresh tomatoes for the same amount)
2 cups water
4 teaspoon minced garlic (4 cloves)
4 bay leaves
2 tablespoon sugar
4 teaspoon dried basil leaves
2 teaspoon dried oregano leaves
4 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
2 teaspoon salt
1 16-ounce package Spaghetti Noodles (Feel free to switch these out with Zucchini Noodles, Carrot Noodles, Squash Noodles, whatever you prefer!)
In a large pot, cook and stir the Italian sausage and onions until the meat is brown; drain fat.
Add remaining ingredients, except the spaghetti.
Bring sauce to a boil reduce heat.
Partly cover, and simmer for 2 hours, stirring occasionally. (If desired, simmer in a Crockpot instead of a pot)
Plate your spaghetti noodles (or zoodles) and your sauce on top of them.
