10 Simple Ways to Detox

Jan 18, 2020

During the 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting, many of you began to detox because you took sugar and meat out of your diet.  Detox is defined as a regimen or treatment intended to remove toxins and impurities from the body.

Toxins accumulate in our bodies from all of the pesticides that are used around us and the antibiotics put in animals and chemicals. They are in our beauty products and additives in our foods.  And every once in a while we need to help our bodies get rid of these toxins.

One of your body systems that need help detoxing is your lymphatic system.

Unlike your blood that moves when your heart beats,  your lymphatic system needs a little help to get the toxins moving and to not get stuck.  Your lymphatic system is stimulated by gravity, muscle contraction and activities that stimulate natural drainage.

Your lymph system is like a network of highways in your body.  Imagine a traffic jam that occurs on a highway, you will have massive delays, excess pollution, and a high risk of accidents.  And so there are some things you can do to get the traffic moving again.

When your lymph system slows down or stagnates, your body will build up a lot of toxins and it may cause you to feel discomfort, aches and pains, swelling, and it sometimes can even affect gut health; as we are learning about the gut and brain connection it can even affect your brain.

So as you can see, it is a good thing to stimulate and detox your lymphatic system and keep it moving.

So here are some things you can do:

1.  Drink plenty of water!  Half of your body weight in ounces or more to be exact.  This will help get things flowing as well as hydrate you.  So many people are walking around dehydrated, and it has so many bad side effects, but that is for another blog.  :)

2.  Exercise regularly. Any kind of exercise, just get moving!  Exercise is not just to lose weight it helps with your overall health.  So....go do something.

3.  A healthy diet and not overeating.  (You knew I was going to say this.)  But a good diet will keep things moving and help build up your immune system which affects your lymph system.  I am getting ready to do a coaching course on this so go sign up for the weight list!

4.  This is one of my favorites...a massage.  There are all kinds of different massages, there is even a specialty lymph massage.  A stone massage is a good one, but any massage is good and will help drain your lymph system.

5.  This is one I have never done but sounds interesting, I might have to try it. It is lymph drainage therapy. It activates the lymph system to drain and get it moving.

6.  This is a fun one!  It is rebounding, jumping on a small trampoline.  (Click here to see what I am talking about.)  Get one and then jump on it at least 5 minutes a day.  The up and down movement is helpful in circulating your lymph system, which doesn't have a pump like the heart so rebounding helps to "pump" the lymph nodes and get things moving.  You can also do jump rope,  it does the same thing as a rebounder.

7.  The next tip is dry skin brushing. You can google search for some great tips on how to do this.  Basically you do small brush strokes on your arms, legs, and back towards your heart.   You need a natural-bristle brush with a long handle (this way you can get your back) with very stiff bristles (Dry skin brushes). Lymph vessels run just below the skin. Proponents of dry brushing claim that brushing the skin regularly helps stimulate the normal lymph flow within the body and helps the body to detox.

8.  This is one I am learning more about since it was just discovered in the mid-1980's, by Dr. Allyn Howlett at St. Lewis University.  He discovered our endocannabinoid system, which is the chemical source of the mind-body connection and that there is a particular class of molecules that help your brain process and respond to what your body is sensing, and vice versa.

Your Endocannabinoid system is part of your lymph system. It has been newly discovered that a good quality CBD oil can help detox your lymph system and get it moving.  This is because CBD oil interfaces with your body's receptors, which are all over your body including your brain and stomach, and they help regulate homeostasis or balance.

9.  This one is not my favorite, but it is good for you...hydro-therapy.  This is where you alternate hot and ice-cold water.  A lot of athletes do this after a workout or game.  You can do this in the shower and alternate between hot and cold water.

10.  Last but not least, castor oil packs.  (Is this a thing?)  Yes, it is and it may have been something you saw your grandmother use.  You put the oil on a cloth and put it on your stomach and it gets the receptors flowing in your stomach.  There is a book on Castor Oil Therapy on Amazon that explains why it is good and how to apply the castor oil pack.

So which one do you want to do to get your Lymph System detoxed and moving?
